About Softkind Design

I am Regan, the designer and creative strategist behind Softkind Design. I started out studying fine arts at UCLA, then spent the first decade of my career in San Francisco — working in professional production studios and on the creative communications team at Autodesk, learning to execute at the highest level across print, digital, brand, and everything in between.

What I understood by the end of that time: technical craft and strategic thinking aren't separate skills. They reinforce each other. The best design comes from someone who can hold both at once.

That's what led me to launch Softkind. The name was deliberate — good design is firm in its thinking and gentle in how it lands. It serves the person using it, not the designer making it.

My Process

Every engagement is different, but the way I work is consistent. I take on a small number of projects at a time so I can be fully present for each one — and I've found that the best results come from slowing down at the beginning, so we can move with confidence from there.

Here's what that typically looks like:

1. Listen: We start with a conversation — about your business, your goals, your audience, and what isn't working yet. I ask a lot of questions. This is where the real project begins, and it's the part most designers skip.

2. Clarify: Before anything gets designed, we get clear on the story. What are you really trying to communicate? To whom? What do you want them to feel, and what do you want them to do? Strategy shapes everything that follows.

3. Design: This is where it gets visual. I design, we review, we refine. You'll never be handed a take-it-or-leave-it result — this is a collaborative process and your perspective is part of what makes it work.

4. Deliver: Whether it's a website going live or print files heading to the printer, I stay with you through the finish line — and make sure you know how to manage what we've built together.
